Roberto Clemente was born in Puerto Rico on August 18, 1934. He relocated to the mainland United States in 1954 after playing two years of Puerto Rican baseball. After a short stint with the Montreal Royals, he was singed by the Pittsburgh Pirates. While on the Pirates he experienced racism from teammates and media.
