Collection contains a pardon, 1819, for Isaac Parke, convicted of mutinous conduct; letters of Winfield Scott appointing Thian to a clerkship in the office of the commanding general, U.S. Army, 1853, and commending him to Edward David Townsend, adjutant general, 1864; a facsimile of the South Carolina ordinance of secession, 1860; a biographical sketch of Thian by his son Prosper; a portrait of Thian; a letter from Prosper Thian to R.H. Woody of Duke University Library; and five scrapbooks containing Raphael Thian's collection of antebellum and Confederate currency and bonds.
