Papers, 1862-1976.

Collection contains photocopies of letters from Harkness to his wife, written during the four years he was away in the Cariboo Gold Rush in British Columbia. One photocopy is of a letter from Mary Dell Harkness Race to her daughter Isabel Kathleen Race Eddy, giving family history. Also included is a photocopy of a letter written to Prof. Richard Preston from Mrs. Robert C. Eddy about the letters and their author. They are primarily love letters but they also contain descriptions of the hardships of Harkness' travels and of the three years of fruitless prospecting for gold. See accession record in repository for conditions regarding publication.
