The collection includes annual records, the IFSC's newsletter, The Council's Chronicle, a camera ready copy of Iowa farm safety in the 20th century: a history of contributions by rural safety volunteers (edited by Herb Plambeck, call no. S565 I66 1983), and calendars illustrated with artwork created by Iowa school children participating in the IFSC fire prevention poster competition. The book was published by the Iowa Farm Safety Council in commemoration of the IFSC's 40th anniversary in 1983. The annual records comprise the bulk of the collection and include correspondence, meeting minutes (business, board, and annual meetings), annual reports, treasurer's reports, newsletters, lists of officers, and annual meeting programs.

Agriculturalist. Plambeck was raised in Scott County, Iowa, and attended Iowa State University. He began his professional career in agriculture as a USDA county extension worker, but soon became farm editor for the Davenport (Iowa) Times-Democrat. In 1936, he became farm director for radio station WHO, Des Moines, and held that position until 1970. The Iowa Farm Safety Council was founded in 1943 as the Iowa Farm Safety Committee by a group of 13 individuals drawn from media, government, industry, and education. Heading the Committee were: Kirk Fox, Editor of Successful Farming; J. S. Russell, Farm Editor of the Des Moines Register; Byron Lodwick of the Farmer's Home Administration; and L. G.
