Memoranda of the Preston family, 1842.

This one item collection consists of a booklet entitled, "Memoranda of the Preston Family," published in 1842 by Orlando Brown in Frankfort, Kentucky. The booklet, which is in very fragile condition, gives the genealogy of the Preston family from the ancestors in Ireland to the Kentucky descendents. Brown signed this copy to Eliza B. Coleman.

Orlando Brown was born September 26, 1801, in Frankfort, Kentucky, to John and Margaretta Brown. He is a descendent of John Preston of Londonderry (now Northern Ireland) through his father's mother, Margaret Preston. He received an A.B. from Princeton and a law degree from Transylvania University. Brown practiced law in Alabama, but returned to Kentucky and became joint proprietor and editor of the FRANKFORT COMMONWEALTH.
