Research materials and manuscripts of Bennett's mysteries and papers delivered to the Indianapolis Literary Club. Seven stories in the collection were included in MURDER MOST FOUL, and a copy of the book is also present. Research materials for "The Cold Spring Murder" include photostats of news clippings about the murder and a copy of the book THE COLD SPRING TRAGEDY. Other topics include Belle Gunness, Arthur Schopenhauer, and Evans Woollen, Jr.

The Indianapolis Literary Club was organized in January, 1877 for the pursuit of "social, literary, and aesthetic culture," and is still active. Membership is restricted to men, is by invitation only, and has always included notable city residents and leaders. A usual meeting consists of a club member delivering a paper on a topic of his choice, followed by discussion. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Ind., Bennett was an entrepreneur, bank director, businessman, clubman, and mystery writer. He inherited the Indianapolis Stove Company and started a solenoid valve company. Bennett was elected to membership in the Indianapolis Literary Club in 1927 and read 11 papers at meetings; many were murder mysteries. A collection of his mysteries was published in 1995 and entitled MURDER MOST FOUL AND OTHER GRISLY TALES. From the description of Papers, ca....
