Papers, 1880-1946.

Consists of correspondence relating chiefly to research problems, in conjunction with Robinson's work as head of the South Dakota State Historical Society; manuscripts of various writings including such topics as poetry, agriculture, education, pioneers, military conflicts and organizations, Dakota Indians, the Missouri River, Mount Rushmore, and the state capitol; and Robinson family genealogical notes, including an autobiographical account of his life. The papers are both official and personal. Correspondents include Gutzon Borglum, Peter Norbeck, various South Dakota political leaders, and a wide array of South Dakotans who provided Robinson information for his historical writings.

Historian. Jonah Leroy (Doane) Robinson was secretary of the South Dakota State Historical Society and superintendent fo the State Department of History from 1901 to 1926.
