Julia Conyers was born in 1781 or 1782, the daughter of John Conyers, a well known sportsman and the "Master of the Essex Hunt." Upon Julia's birth, the Conyerses has resided at Copt [now Copped] Hall, Essex, England, for a few generations. On 27 August 1811 she married Captain John Astley Bennet (1778-1812) of the Royal Navy, who died just over a year later.
