Papers, 1863-1864.

Collection consists of Young's diary from August 1, 1863 through June 19, 1864. He conscientiously recorded his activities and the boat's movements, while always longing for war news and mail. During this period, the boat was located off the shores of Va. and Md., as part of the Potomac Flotilla and the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron. Periodic chores are mentioned as well as the hazards of keeping the boat afloat. Several times the confiscation of property was mentioned as well as troop movements, located prisoners, and one occasion when the boat was fired upon in the Rappahannock River.
