Lay family papers, 1863-1926 [microform].

The collection consists of papers of the Lay family of Calhoun (Gordon County, Ga.) from 1863-1926, with gaps. The papers include correspondence (1889-1893, 1896-1897, 1908-1919) to Mary Alexander, Maria Hightower, and Ellen McIntire which reflect life in Georgia in the 1890s and 1900s; and financial records which include a cotton crop note (1894), account statements (1926) and a contract agreement (1914) for care of a person in return for property. Also included is a Civil War exemption certificate (1863).
