Summary: Collection consists of records of the Southwestern Association on Indian Affairs. Also within the collection are documents from the Association on American Indian Affairs and the New Mexico Association on Indian Affairs. Collection includes correspondence, reports, minutes, financial records, ledger books, memorandums, legal douments, constitutions, bylaws, newsletters, clippings, and publications. Most of the materials concern Indians of New Mexico and Arizona and their relations with the U.S. Government, especially the Pueblos, Navajos, and Apaches. Also within the collection are letters received from Indian servicemen during World War II, and a scrapbook containing typescripts and summaries of those letters.

The Association on American Indian Affairs is a citizens' organization committed to defending the rights and promoting the welfare of Native Americans. The AAIA, initially incorporated as the Eastern Association of Indian Affairs, was founded by non-Indians in New York in 1922. In 1937, the AAIA, then known as the National Association on Indian Affairs, merged with the American Indian Defense Association. It adopted its current name in 1946, and in 1995, now under Indian management, moved to Sis...
