Lucy Goodloe Shelby, born in Kentucky in 1862, was the daughter of Edmund Pendleton Shelby, grandson of Gov. Isaac Shelby, and Susan Goodloe Hart, great-granddaughter of Captain Nathaniel Hart who helped form the Transylvania Company which bought the southern portion of Kentucky from the Cherokees in 1775.
