Executive Director William J. Trent files, 1944-1964.

The collection consists of the files of William J. Trent as Executive Director of the UNCF from 1944-1964. Includes correspondence, statistical summaries of member institutions, memoranda, reports, and financial documents. Trent's files reflect his involvement with campaign costs, quotas, and results; budgets and expenditures; and annual campaign distributions. Materials also contain information about how the organization cultivated key donors and volunteers, the development between UNCF and member institutions, UNCF's efforts to recruit more white students, enrollment of World War II veterans, and the need for continued support of African American colleges and universities in light of the Supreme Court's 1954 desegregation decision.
