The collection consists of papers of the George A. Cunningham family of Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia from 1849, 1862-1865, 1874. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between George A. Cunningham and his wife Mary (Mollie) from 1862-1865. Mollie's letters discuss activities of the Confederate Government, Union attacks on civilians, and Sherman's march through Georgia. The collection also contains a few letters from Mollie's brother J.M. Bullard (1862-1865) discussing farming, family news, and disease, as well as letters to George E.
