The collection consists of correspondence of the Lipscomb family from 1856-1893. Includes a letter from Andrew A. Lipscomb to his sister Molly at Tuskegee Female College, Alabama (September 29, 1856) in which he discusses a family death; letter from Williams Rutherford to Alexander H. Stephens (July 10, 1861) pertaining to Rutherford's view of issuing bonds instead of treasury notes for the cotton loan; two letters from Frank A. Lipscomb to his "Auntie" dated Camp Chase, Ohio (1864-1865) in which he advises his aunt not to visit him in jail, the inability to receive newspapers, his health, news from home, and the possibility of moving from Camp Chase; three letters from Lipscomb while in Europe (1866-1867) discuss his boat trip to Europe, travels through Germany and Italy, impressions of Europe, European opinions of Southerners, Lipscomb's aversion to returning to the United States, and his indecision regarding the future.
