Robert R. Martin papers, 1944-1945.

The collection consists of correspondence and v-mail from Col. Robert R. Martin during his World War II service with the 114th Infantry Division from 1944-1945. The letters are written mainly to his wife, Mary Belle Martin, while a few are addressed to his daughter, Jane Martin, or his son, Robert N. Martin. Written from France, Germany, and Austria, the letters contain detailed descriptions of Martin's surroundings, the countryside, the local people and their relationship with the soldiers, his administrative or military duties, and the condition of his unit. The letters also detail the problems of raising a family while separated.
