Cason J. Callaway / Callaway Gardens collection, [ca. 1864-[ongoing]].

The collection consists of papers relating to the Cason J. Callaway family and the family's involvement in developing Callaway Gardens from ca. 1864-present. Cason Callaway's career as an industrialist and philanthropist can be traced through the correspondence/subject files, clippings/publications, and photographs/audio visuals series. The development of Callaway Gardens is also documented in Callaway's correspondence/subject files, the clippings/publications series, and the Horticultural Dept. records; but other significant information relating to the building of the Garden can be found in engineer Eitel Bauer's files. The large photographs/audio visuals series provides an important visual record of both Callaway's career and the development of the Gardens. In addition to documenting the Callaway lifestyle, business affiliations, and philanthropic endeavors, this collection provides insight into topics ranging from agriculture to politics and from education to corporate business. Researchers can also find information on the accomplishments of Callaway's wife Virginia, sons Cason and Howard, and father Fuller Callaway, Sr.
