Strickland/Gilbert family papers, 1782-1917 (bulk 1782-1892).

These papers document the life and migration of the Strickland Family from Guilford Co., NC, through Franklin Co., GA, to Madison, Forsyth, and Gwinnett Counties. Most of the records are business and legal papers with a couple of letters for the 1830-1850 period. Later records in the series include masonic correspondence from the Sharon Lodge in Fayette County and several folders of unrelated letters from the Gwinnett and Clarke County areas, such as letters between Robert W. Almon, a student at Athens, and his Chesnut cousins. Family charts were assembled from Family Files in the Georgia Dept. of Archives and History library, government records on microfilm, internal evidence, and even papers in the Brown/Connally/Anderson Collection.
