The collection consists of the records of Local 144 (Macon, Ga.) of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America from 1887-1983. Includes correspondence with International officers, including M.A. Hutcheson; other Carpenter's locals; and local, regional, federal, and state labor organizations. Both the correspondence (1938-1968) and the minutes (1887-1965) discuss apprentice programs, contract negotiations, wage predetermination, trial committee reports, and other local union activities. The financial documents (1920-1970) consist of tax records, weekly financial reports, receipts, and disbursements. The collection also includes attendance records, apprentice materials, constitutional revisions, National Labor Relations Board reports, Carpenters Hall materials, U.S. Dept. of Labor information, photographs, and audiotapes.
