Frank Herschede began selling hall clocks in his Cincinnati jewelry store in 1885. He established the Herschede Hall Clock Company in 1902, which first manufactured cases for imported clock mechanisms and later manufactured the clock movements as well. The company was owned and operated by family members until 1967.
