Donald Malia railroad collection, 1949-1983.

A collection of material gathered by Donald Maila, Sr. during his career as a train conductor. Material relates to the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, Conrail, and Amtrak, particularly information mentioning Connecticut. Includes time tables, menus, forms used by train conductors during their trips, instruction manuals, rule books, and records of cash fares collected. Malia was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. In advocating for his fellow railroad employees, Malia wrote to and received responses from Senators Prescott Bush and William Purtell. Contains two issues of "Along the Line", a publication of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. Other publications include a 450 question railroad quiz book and a 1946 publication titled "Firing the Steam Locomotive", prepared by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
