Sumner Family papers, 1795-1912.

Charles F. Sumner, MD, was an active citizen of Bolton, Connecticut. At various times he served as a notary public, justice of the peace, school board member, and the town's medical examiner. Some bills and receipts may be found, but the bulk of the collection is correspondence from various family members. The first three boxes (1.5 linear feet) have been labeled historical and genealogical notes, though that sort of material may be found throughout the collection. Documents within the collection have been passed down through the Sumner family, and the family of Sumner's wife, Josephine White. Sumner correspondents include sons Jefferson, Charles Jr., and Clement; Charles Sumner's father, Rev. Henry Sumner and several cousins. White family correspondents include Josephine's father, Thomas Jefferson White, and her uncle and cousin, both Jabez Loomis White.

6.5 linear feet (13 boxes).
