Biographical note: Rancher; John Slaughter served two terms as Cochise County Sheriff beginning in 1887, served a term in the Arizona Legislature in 1906, helped to develop the town of Douglas, Arizona, and was a stockholder in the Bank of Douglas. In 1883, John Slaughter purchased about 40,000 acres of the San Bernadino Land Grant in southeastern Arizona on the Mexican border.
