Administrative policy records, 1904-1909.

This series documents the administration of Andrew Sledd as president of the University of Florida at Lake City (formerly the Florida Agricultural College) and the University of the State of Florida at both Lake City and Gainesville. Also included in this series are letters of Sledd's predecessor, T.H. Taliaferro. The series consists largely of Sledd's correspondence with the Board of Control and the earlier Board of Trustees, with W.P. Jernigan, University Auditor and Bookkeeper, and with J.G. Kellum, Secretary to the Board of Control. The series contains letters, reports, financial records, and publications. The Board of Control, predecessor to today's Board of Regents, was formed on June 5, 1905. The Board oversaw the public universities of Florida, as it does today. Its decisions were reviewed by the State Board of Education. Sledd's work with the Board of Control is well documented in the series. Other subjects reflected include student and faculty recruitment and life at the University. Of particular interest are the Taliaferro correspondence and report in 1904 and a hazing incident described by P.H. Rolfs, also in 1904. Record of an injunction against the move from Lake City can be found in the correspondence files of Jernigan.
