Civil War papers, ca. 1861-1874.

Correspondence and papers relating to Scott's Civil War service. Scott's letters detail many key engagements and camp life, while his wife writes of hardships at home. Letters from officers in the 33rd Regiment relate to Scott's death and the unsuccessful efforts to preserve his body in charcoal for shipment home. Other topics include the fall of Vicksburg, the regiment's capture at Thompsons Station, tactics, and soldier-civilian relations. There are also military commissions, a pension document, and four cartes de visite, probably of Scott and his family.
