James H. Byrns collection of northern New Mexico documents : photocopies, 1740-1895 (bulk, 1826-1843).

Summary: Collection consists of photocopies of documents involving land grants, wills, estates, land conveyances, and litigations in northern New Mexico. Series I consists of two documents concerning the Juan Joseph Lovato Land Grant (1740 and 1744), and one document concerning the Tierra Amarilla Land Grant (1832). Series II consists of hijuelas (estate inventories) of Maria Manuela Martinez (1842) and Maria Encarnacion Garcia de Martinez (1895). Series III includes land conveyances in Chama (1841) and Abiquiu (1843), New Mexico. Series IV includes several legal documents involving Baltasar Quintana; and an 1836 proclamation by New Mexico Governor Albino Perez warning of danger from Texans.
