Summary: Series I consists of letters received by Romero from 1897-1911, most of which concern personal, business, and political matters in San Miguel County, New Mexico. Series II consists of one letter sent by Romero in 1900 and one letterpress copybook of letters sent by Romero from 1909-1910, most of which concern personal, business, and political matters in San Miguel County. Series III includes Republican party precinct lists, drafts of speeches and endorsements (ca. 1906), and a 1910 resolution to organize a citizens' party in San Miguel County for the purpose of electing delegates to the New Mexico constitutional convention.

Secundino Romero was born July 1, 1869, in Las Vegas, N.M. He was educated in N.M. and Kansas. While working in the Romero family mercantile business he became active in county Republican Party politics. During his career he was clerk in the Fourth Judicial District, mayor of the Town of Las Vegas, sheriff of San Miguel County, speaker of the House and publisher of El Independiente.
