The Bakewell-McKnight family photograph collection includes photograph albums, cased photographs, mounted and unmounted prints, and photographic postcards. Most of the images are of members of the Bakewell family of Pittsburgh and the Boardman family of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Individuals featured prominently are Benjamin Bakewell and Ellen Frances Boardman Bakewell, their three daughters, Mary Ella Bakewell, Euphemia Bakewell, and Martha Harding Bakewell McKnight and clergyman Henry Augustus Boardman. Notable items in the collection include two photographs of Benjamin Bakewell with other members of K Company of the U.S. Army's 12th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment during the Civil War and photographs of Euphemia Bakewell's relief work with the YMCA in France at the end of World War I. There are also commercial photographs of Jefferson Davis and George B. McClellan and a photograph of Martha Harding Bakewell McKnight with Bess and Harry S. Truman.
