Consisting of items documenting political campaigns of Dorn and others at the local, state, and national levels. Collection includes 0.5 linear feet re Dorn's unsuccessful 1948 Senate campaign, including his attacks upon Judge Julius Waties Waring, and the blame Dorn placed for his loss on the financial resources of former governor and incumbent U.S. Senator Burnet R. Maybank; and mailings, 1954, from the Democratic National Committee. Items from 1954 elections document Dorn's consideration of a write-in campaign during the 1954 election challenging Edgar A. Brown for the U.S. Senate; correspondence documents Dorn's decision to forego the plan because it would confuse the political race and weaken the Democratic party in South Carolina. Collection also documents Dorn's unopposed reelections to Congress in 1956, 1958, 1960 and 1962 representing the third district; and records, 1956, re presidential campaign of Adlai Stevenson, on whose behalf Dorn campaigned in Florida. Files, 1960, include correspondence regarding Dorn's interest in nominating then governor, Ernest F. Hollings, for the presidency, and Hollings' refusal; transcript, 9 September 1960, of television debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon; and correspondence, ca. 1962, re speculation that Dorn might challenge Olin D. Johnston for the United States Senate, possibly as a Republican. Also including extensive files documenting Dorn's gubernatorial campaigns of 1974 and 1978, including 1974 correspondence with Sol Blatt, H.P. Stephenson, and Julius Wolfe.
