Terriers of private surveys, 1837.

Terriers are volumes describing private land claim interests which include claim histories; claim survey plats; and field notes copies. Private surveys for which terriers were prepared include Kaskaskia Land District claims based on militia, improvement, and ancient grants; Vincennes Tract claims (i.e., militia; improvement; ancient) and head grants for Illinois land; and Peoria city lot claims. Claim histories include original, intermediate, and present claimant names; claim type; tract acreage; tract township and range location; claim number; survey number; Kaskaskia or Vincennes Board of Commissioners claim recommendation report to Congress date; Congressional act date under which claim was confirmed; claim volume and page references to the Duff Green edition of the American State Papers: Public Lands, 5 vols. (Washington, D.C., 1834). Plat copies include boundary dimensions; usually variations between true and magnetic meridians in degrees and minutes, and drawing scale drawing.
