Lionel Allen Sheldon was a U.S. Representative from Louisiana and was Governor of New Mexico Territory from 1881 to 1885. He moved to Los Angeles, California in 1888 and died in Pasadena in 1917. Sheldon was appointed Governor in 1881 by President Garfield. Sheldon served as a congressman for Louisiana before becoming Governor of New Mexico. He was born in New York in 1831.
