The majority of the letters are dated after Kirkman₂s 1973 graduation from UNC-CH and relate to personal matters. Of special note, however, is correspondence, 1975-1977 concerning the work of the Dialectic and Philanthropic Societies Foundation, Inc., which was formed in July 1974 to raise funds for the preservation of the societies₂ artistic and historical properties. Also included are Kirkman₂s pocket appointment books, 1974-1983, and his diaries, 1975-1984.
