T.S. Eliot letters and poem, 1946-1959.

The collection contains nine letters from Eliot and one response, Christmas card, a facsimile letter, and speech. He writes on Faber and Faber letterhead to H.L.R. Edwards, 13 December 1946, rejecting his manuscript of a book about Tudor poet John Skelton [with draft reply from Edwards]; and to Erica Marx, The Hand and Flower Press, 9 and 14 September 1955, about Blanaid Salkeld's book of poems, Experiment in Error. He writes to Alida Monro, 26 November 1953, about her visiting him, he received her letter, 15 November 1955, and replies, 22 December 1955, concerning publishing her husband's (Harold Monro) poetry. He writes to John Lehmann, 3 December 1953, thanking him for a glowing tribute in the New York Times book review on 29 November 1953; to Antonia Wilde, 4 September 1958 and 25 March 1959, encouraging her poetry. Also, a facsimile of Eliot's letter eulogizing Harriet Shaw Weaver, 1961; one Faber and Faber Christmas card signed by Eliot, 1954; Eliot's speech, "Those who need privacy and those whose need is company," printed in Cecil Houses, Inc. 23rd Report, 1950-51.
