Elias R. Macias correspondence.

ArchivalResource

Elias R. Macias correspondence.

Consists of both originals and photocopies of correspondence between Elias R. Macias and then UTEP University Archivist Leon C. Metz concerning a claim against the United States government that was made by Francisco de la O (Macias' great grandfather) who, in 1861, had his entire wagon train confiscated by the U.S. Army while it was retreating from Confederate forces invading Fort Bliss, Texas. Approximately 100 mules, several wagons, and copper ore were taken at the U.S. port of entry enroute from Chihuahua, Chihuahua (state), Mexico. Macias, as heir, was attempting to gather more facts about the confiscation in order to press his claim against the U.S. government.
