Copies of outgoing and incoming correspondence of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with state and federal officials, citizens, sports organizations and Illinois Department of Conservation cover rehabilitation, maintenance and repair of canal. Subjects include drainage conditions, inspection of hydraulic structures, drainage ditches, water diversion, sale fo salvaged material, Sterling Dam, boat traffic, repair priorities, flood protection, small animal trapping and costs of abandoning canal. Also included are copies of federal legislation for canal appropriations; copy of supplemental agreement between federal government and State of Illinois to repair, modify and then transfer canal; press releases; and memoranda.
