Bernard of St. Louis, Mo., operated by Joab Bernard. Also, includes family correspondence, 1825-1843, of his wife, Mary Jane (Thomas) Bernard (1810-1843) of Portsmouth, Va.; correspondence, 1842-1884, of their daughter, Frances Ann (Bernard) Capps (1826-1885) of Portsmouth, primarily concerning her activities in the Methodist Episcopal Church, the education of herself, her friends, and her children, her role as a wife and mother, and other family relationships); and correspondence, 1846-1900, of her brother, Jesse Talbot Bernard (1829-1909), as a student at Randolph-Macon College, Boydton (later Ashland), Va., and in Tallahassee, Fla.
