Dionisio "Dennis" Chávez (April 8, 1888 – November 18, 1962) was an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the United States House of Representatives from 1931 to 1935, and in the United States Senate from 1935 to 1962. He was the first Hispanic person elected to a full term in the U.S. Senate and the first U.S. Senator to be born in New Mexico. Antonio Gilberto Espinosa was born on December 11, 1897 in Del Norte, Co. He was a descendant of Captain Marcello Espinosa, who came to New Mexico with Oñate in 1598. Espinosa wrote books and articles, and lectured on the history, culture and folklore of New Mexico. He was considered an authority on early Spanish and Mexican land grants.
