An act to alter and amend the law in relation to the registration of births, marriages, and deaths, 1858.

Printed bill directs all physicians, midwives, and clergymen to keep a registry of all births, deaths, and marriages which they have attended professionally and to give a copy to the tax collector annually. The act also appoints a state registrar and outlines his duties.

S.C. Statute 1811(5)639 specified that every board of commissioners of free schools was to make a yearly return to the legislature.
