Forsyth papers, 1872-1970 (bulk 1872-1905).

Letters, reports, diaries, invitations, news clippings, photographs and a cookbook belonging to Natalie Beaumont Forsyth, her father Eugene Beaumont, and her husband, Gen. George A. Forsyth, and other family members and mainly relating to army life and social activities of officers and their families in the 1870s and 1880s; the late 1880s were spent in southern Arizona. The collection contains an original 1884 report on conditions at Ft. Bowie and letters to Gen. Forsyth including one in which Capt. Emmett Crawford reports on a scouting expedition in southern Arizona in 1883. Some letters recount the Confederate Surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865 in answer to Forsyth's inquiry about who was present. A letter from Robert Lincoln describes his memories of the event. Photographs include a daguerreotype and cartes-de-visite of women in the Beaumont family as well as a few photographs of Apache Indians.

Eugene Beaumont commanded Ft. Bowie from 1884 to 1887, then was transferred to Ft. Huachuca. His daughter Natalie married Lt. Col. George A. Forsyth, a career army officer.
