Office on Volunteer Service administrative files (1961-1987) contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, financial statements, and publications which primarily regard the Office's volunteer program, World Brotherhood Exchange (WBE). Also included are files regarding the WBE program before its transfer to Lutheran World Ministries (LWM) in 1977. Office on Volunteer Service files regard coordination of volunteer work with other volunteer agencies; volunteer recruitment and placement through the Office's WBE program; volunteer promotional activities; participation in the Commission on Voluntary Service and Action; transfer of the WBE. Program from the Lutheran Council in the U.S.A. (LCUSA); and legal issues concerning a 1973 bequest to WBE. Correspondents include Office Directors Harold T. Hanson (1977-1986) and Gerda Schiavoni (1987); and WBE Directors (before its transfer to LWM) Conrad S. Braaten and James Hoxeng; and members of the World Brothers Foundation, an agency founded in 1967 to help raise funds for the WBE.
