Lutheran World Federation - Department of Church Cooperation General Files, 1953-1984.

Lutheran World Federation - Department of Church Cooperation files (1953-1984) were created by the Executive Director of the National Lutheran Council (NLC) and the General Secretaries of the U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (USANC) and Lutheran World Ministries (LWM). Files contain correspondence, minutes, reports, newsletters, and publications regarding the USANC's cooperative efforts in carrying out the program of the Lutheran World Federation- Department of World Mission (LWF-DWM) and its successor body, the Department of Church Cooperation (LWF-DCC). Files regard activities, mail votes, and staff matters of the USANC's Advisory Committee on Church Cooperation and Service (1971-1976); funding for LWF-DWM and LWF-DCC programs, LWF and USANC staff matters and meetings, LWF and USANC sponsored consultations, and specific mission projects. Notable correspondents include LWF-DWM and LWF-DCC Directors Fridtjov Birkeli, Arne Sovik, Carl-Johann Hellberg, and Risto Lehtonen; and USANC Office of Church Cooperation and Service Director Levon H. Spath. General Secretaries of the USANC and LWM included Paul C. Empie (1967-72, 1974-1975); Carl H. Mau, Jr. (1972-1974); Paul A. Wee (1976-1986); and Harold T. Hanson (1986-1987).
