Participant Files, 1956-1966.

Office of International Exchange participant files (1956-1966) contain correspondence, scholarship applications, evaluations, and reports from participants in the Lutheran World Federation-Department of World Mission Exchange and in the Lutheran World Federation-Department of World Service Church Workers Exchange. Files concern the application and evaluation process and progress of participants in each program. Correspondents include Ruth C. Wick, Office of International Exchange Director; participants, and references. In addition to these correspondents, World Mission Exchange correspondence is with foreign Lutheran church and U.S. university, college, and seminary officials. Church Worker Exchange files are divided into two groupings: United States participants to foreign countries and foreign partipants to the United States.

The National Lutheran Council (NLC) was established on September 6, 1918 as a common agency of participating Lutheran church bodies to administer domestic programs, publicize Lutheran activities and beliefs, and provide overseas emergency relief to areas devastated by World War I.
