Joan Higgins Reed papers, 1922-1977.

Summary: Collection consists primarily of the personal papers of Joan Higgins Reed and her husband Allen W. Reed. Includes several high school and college essays by Joan Higgins Reed, letters to Joan from Allen Reed, letters to the Reeds from Allen's mother Mary W. Reed, and an extensive series of letters to the Reeds from Joan's mother Sara Parsons Mack and stepfather Robert S. Mack. Letters from the Macks primarily concern the condition of the Reeds' son Christopher, who suffered from cerebal palsey. Also within the collection are materials on Taos, New Mexico, including 10 Taos Chamber of Commerce Bulletins from 1959 to 1960, and clippings, letters, and other items on the dispute between Taos Pueblo and the U.S. Government over rights to the Taos Blue Lake in northern New Mexico. Inventories of paintings by Sheldon Parsons and letters sent to Joan Higgins Reed concerning their disposition are also in this collection.
