Jefferson Davis papers : letters, 1853-1886.

This collection predominately consists of letters written to R.W. Downer by Jefferson Davis in 1866. The contents of these letters concern Davis's attendance at the dedication of the Bethel Church, which was built on the site of his birthplace in Fairview, Kentucky. The rest of the collection consists of a letter and photograph. The letter is by Davis when he was serving as Acting Secretary of the Navy. The document releases the steamer, Corwin, from a costal survey. The picture is of Jefferson Davis, but the date is uncertain.
