Varina Davis letters : 1890-1901.

This two item collection consists of letters written by Varina Davis concerning the removal of her husband, Jefferson's, remains to Fairview, Kentucky. The first letter, dated Feb. 4, 1890, was written to R.W. Downer, the church clerk at Bethel Church in Fairview, Kentucky. Mrs. Davis was declining to have her husbands remains moved to the Bethel Church, which was built on his birth site. The second letter, written in 1901, was to Mrs. Grant. Davis was responding to a letter from Mrs. Grant about a picture of Jefferson Davis.
