Randall Jarrell (6 May 1914 – 14 October 1965), the noted American poet, literary critic, children's author, essayist, and novelist, was born in Nashville, Tennessee. Robert Watson was born in Passaic, N.J. in 1925, and educated at Williams College and Johns Hopkins University where he earned his Doctorate in 1955. Faculty member in the English Department at UNCG from 1953-1987.
