Nommensen University Files, 1956-1967.

Nommensen University files (1956-1967) contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, and publications regarding the administration of a Ford Foundation grant in support of the University's Faculty of Economics. Files concern visiting professor's travel arrangements, qualifications, expenses and experiences at the University; Nommensen graduate students' placement at and progress in U.S. universities; Faculty of Economics finances, needs, progress, and problems; Lutheran World Federation and National Lutheran Council's relationship with the Indonesian government and the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (H.K.B.P.); and historical material. Regarding Indonesia. Correspondents include officials of the NLC, Ford Foundation, Lutheran World Federation, and Nommensen University. American and Dutch visiting professors, visiting professors' references, and Nommensen exchange students are also represented in the files. J. Robert Busche, NLC Assistant Executive Director, is the primary correspondent in the collection due to his role as administrator of the grant.

Nommensen University was founded in 1954 in Sumatra, Indonesia, by the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (H.K.B.P.). In 1956, the University received a grant from the Ford Foundation to strengthen and enhance its Faculty (Department) of Economics.
