Report of the first inspection of the Illinois National Guard, 1877.

First National Guard (organized under the Military Code of 1877) inspection report was submitted to the Adjutant General by the National Guard Inspector General. Report includes copies of Governor's and Adjutant General's orders mandating the inspection; report synopses assessing each bridage's condition, efficiency, discipline, and troop strength; general guard unit troop strength recapitulation; and Inspector General's recommendations (i.e., weapons and equipment improvement; rifle practice); and reports on the guard's handling of labor riots in Chicago, East St. Louis, Bloomington, Streator, and Altoona (July 1877).
