The film accompanied a talk given by Scripps Institution of Oceanography marine physicist Fred Noel Spiess on that date. The footage includes raising and lowering FLIP (Floating Instrument Platform), shipboard research activities including the lowering of a submersible, and underwater photography of marine life.
