Company descriptive books, 1861-1865.

Descriptive books for various companies include lists of officers giving each officer's name, rank, appointment date; and descriptive rolls of enlisted men giving each soldier's name, age, birthplace, height, colors of eyes, hair, and complexion; enlistment date, place, and term; individual who enlisted soldier; and dated notes on change in status (e.g., transfer, promotion). Books sometimes include discharge, transfer, and death registers giving soldier name and rank; discharge, transfer, or death dates, places, and causes. Descriptive books are included for these companies : Company E, 8th Infantry Regiment (photostatic copy); Company E, 17th Infantry Regiment; Company K, 33d Infantry Regiment; Companies A-I and K, 112th Infantry Regiment; Companies A-I and K, 138th Infantry Regiment; Company C, 139th Infantry Regiment; Company K, 140th Infantry Regiment; Company B, 145th Infantry Regiment.
